Lots of fish in the Lostmans River vacinity.
Report Date: December 4, 2010
This week I had a great trip with Carl and Bob Wartanen. Carl is from Cape cod and his son Bob resides in Venice,Fl. We met at the marina Wednesday norning with a well full of live shrimp and headed south to the Lostans River area.
We stopped at a couple of spots on the way down to take advantage of the last of the incoming tide, and caught a few fish on the ouside points. There was a cold front moving in on top of us and you could see the front line to north as we continued on our quest to find fish before the weather got to us. The wind began to pick up out of the north, so I tucked in to the mouth of Lostmans River. The tide had just changed, so anchored up on a bar I like in the river and began fishing our shrimp under a popping cork. We sat on this spot for a couple of hours catching atleast fourty redfish (most of them short), several sheepshead and snappers, a couple of small snook and the usual variety of jacks and ladyfish. By now, we had just about gone through all of our shrimp (200)and the wind was picking up. I suggested we run backcountry back to the marina and fish a couple of spots along the way. We had a great day and planned another trip for Thursday, however the north wind and negative tides made it impossible to launch my boat.
